L.N. Jhunjhunwala learnt his mathematics at the feet of legendary Professor S.N. Bose, drifted to business and earned a great reputation, and profound success with exemplary dynamism and foresight. Economic endeavours could not diminish the intensity of his pursuits in social, cultural and educational dimensions. His ingenuity found ample scope in diverse sectors, but simultaneously, his interest in talent nurturing of the young consistently remains a lasting passion. From trekking in mountains to Tailang Swami, to Pawnar Ashram, from Manduka Upanishad to music, to the top politicians managing the country reveals a personality that strives hard to serve the national interests in the true Gandhian tradition. His initiatives in promoting Chess in India, establishing the Ramakrishna Vivekananda University are outcomes of the yearning to see Indian talent flourish globally. His vast and varied journey has blossomed in spirituality and sublime pursuits of life.
जन्म : 17 अक्तूबर, 1928 को ग्राम मुकुंदगढ़ (राजस्थान) में।
शिक्षा : प्रारंभिक शिक्षा जहाँ आज पूर्वी बंगाल है, सिराजगंज सिरसाबाड़ी में, स्कॉटिश चर्च कॉलेज, कलकत्ता विश्वविद्यालय में दर्शनशास्त्र से स्नातक परीक्षा व गणित ऑनर्स में विश्वविद्यालय में सर्वप्रथम होकर स्वर्ण पदक प्राप्त किया। एम.ए. में प्रसिद्ध वैज्ञानिक श्री सत्येन बोस के पास Pure Mathematics’ के विद्यार्थी रहे।
कृतित्व : पढ़ने की तीव्र इच्छा के बावजूद परिवार के दबाव में सन् 1949 में अमेरिका jute goods के निर्यात में लग गए।
औद्योगिक जगत् में रहकर भी उनका सांस्कृतिक कायोर्ं में सक्रिय योगदान, कलकत्ता के प्रमुख सांस्कृतिक संस्थान ‘भारतीय संस्कृति संसद्’ की 1954 के संस्थापन के संस्थापक सदस्य, एस्ट्रोनॉमी, रामकृष्ण मिशन की गतिविधियों में रुचि, शेंडेक्पू-फालुट (सिक्किम), तिस्ता के किनारे लाओचिंग घाटी, कोल्हाई ग्लेशियर (कश्मीर), पिंडारी ग्लेशियर व हर की धून (उत्तर प्रदेश) ग्लेशियरों की यात्राएँ, रामकृष्ण विवेकानंद साहित्य का मूल बँगला में अध्ययन, ध्रुपद गायक श्री अमीनुद्दीन के छात्र, बोटविनिक चेस एकाडमी (रूसी सांस्कृतिक केंद्र) के अध्यक्ष, जहाँ से भारत के पहले तीन शतरंज ग्रेंड मास्टर निकले।
