S.K. Uppal is a post graduate in English Literature and Philosophy from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. He joined, the 
Indian Foreign Service in 1965 and travelled extensively in Asia, Europe and Africa. Before retirement he went 
to Manila as an Ambassador for two years—1999 to 2001. He gave lectures on modern India at Aichi University, Japan for six years after retirement. His wife is Japanese. They have a son.  He now lives in New Delhi.
