"The last decade of 20th century brought anarchy, devastation, selective killings, massacres and despoilment in Jammu and Kashmir at the behest of our neighbour country. The turmoil and genocide forced exodus of thousands of people from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Hindus in huge numbers migrated from Kashmir valley, Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch districts to Jammu city and even outside Jammu and Kashmir.
Since time immemorial, many noble souls have incarnated on this soil to safeguard its unity and integrity. History was once again repeated during the decade of 1990s when Jammu and Kashmir was in turmoil. Under these circumstances, the common villagers of Jammu and Kashmir came forward to protect the civilians from Pakistan sponsored terrorists and to uphold the crown of Bharat. This book deals with the establishment and contribution of Village Defence Committees in Jammu and Kashmir.
This work seeks to revisit our past and refresh our memories through visuals of the Martyrs. Since this book has been compiled and written during the 75th year of India's Independence and published in the Amrit kaal, it would be of great interest to the readers both from civilian as well as defence sectors."
